Text: 1 Peter 2: 11 – 25
To understand Christian Living, it is pertinent that what Christianity is all about. Many have misconstrued Christianity to be a religion like other world religions. This is far from the truth. The word Christian was first used to describe the followers of Jesus at Antioch of Syria not because they observe a particular strict religious order but because they accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and lived a life that depicts the life of Christ.
How to Live as a Christian
- Give your life Christ: From the above therefore, the first step to Christian living is to have the Christ as Lord. 2 Cor. 5: 15 said “He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves . Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them”. In order word, it means that those in Christ are new creation (2 Cor. 5:17). If you are a new creation, then you can no longer act as you belong to yourself.
- Love all: Christ live is all about love. He left his throne to come and die for the world (Phil. 2: 5 -8). He related with the high and the low, the righteous and the sinners. He was for all and the same is expected of us.
- Abstain from sinful desires (1 Peter 2: 12 – 17): Having become a new creature, it is pertinent to live a life worthy of him. The Bible admonished us to live a life that will make unbelievers to glorify God. This means that means that you should endeavor to do the right things always in accordance to the law of God and law of the land. We should not suffer as criminals.
- Submit to Authority: A Christian is should submit to authority. While Christians are not expected to condone injustice, they are expected to obey the law of the land. If a Christian suffers because of disobedient to the law of the land then he is not reflecting Christ. Jesus obeyed the authority in his time despite his divine nature. No wonder he said that we should give to Ceaser what belong to Ceaser.
A Christian is living in the world but does not belong to the world. A Christian is expected to live in full compliance to the dictates of the scripture. Failure to do this is the problem the world is facing.
